Healing in Progress
Healing in Progress

We were able to take some aspects of the workshop and hold a one-day retreat for three women who have been off the streets for some time (1-4 years). As they come away from a place of continued trauma and move into a safer place, addressing the area of heart wounds is so important.

The workshop allowed us to begin the conversation of healing old wounds and why it is so important, even though it can be painful. To experience true freedom, healing of our heart wounds is crucial and requires the assistance of professionals.

This short introduction was a way for us to begin this process so we can then refer them to professionals for deeper work.

The day involved two talks that allowed for quiet reflection, artistic expression, discussion and prayer in groups or pairs. We also had a wonderful meal together and played games.

It was so encouraging to hear these women reflect on where they were, how dark it was compared to where they are now. Where they see a future that is very different from what they once believed they could have.

The road to this point has been, for us and them, long and marked with potholes and moments of hopelessness. But to see them turning a corner and living a very different kind of life gives us so much hope for the countless other women who are still in that very dark place.
